How do I adjust my Anthros for a pear-shaped figure?

If your hips already reach the pelvis support, you may not need to bring it forward at all

This article includes a 1:42 video walkthrough.

Quick answer

If you have a fuller, more pear-shaped figure, your hips may already reach the pelvis support when you sit all the way back. In that case you often don't need to bring the pelvis support forward at all. Just sit in a neutral pelvis as far back as you can, check that your pelvis can't tilt back, and bring the upper back in to meet you.

Step by step

  1. Sit in a neutral pelvis and get as far back in the seat as you can.

  2. Try tilting your pelvis back. If you're already against the pelvis support and can't tilt back, leave it where it is.

  3. Reach back and bring the upper back toward you until you feel it, then relax into it.

  4. Turn your muscles off and check that you feel balanced: not pushed forward, and not reaching back.

Also called: wide hips, curvy, large glutes, pear-shaped body, can't reach the backrest.

For those of you who are blessed to have a badonkadonk, sitting in the Anthros chair could be the best thing ever, because most of you have never made contact with the upper back of an office chair. Would you agree? Yes. So that's the beauty of the Anthros chair for a more pear-shaped figure.

Now, Katrina, I want you to get into a neutral pelvis for me. There we go. And then you did what I was going to ask you to do, which is just get as far back as possible. Okay. So now, again, the role of the pelvis support is to prevent that backwards tilt of the pelvis. You're already up against the pelvis support, so I want you to try tilting your pelvis back. It's not going anywhere, because you're right up against it, so we don't need to bring that forward. And that's the thing: when you're able to get right into the pelvis support, you don't have to crank it.

So we're going to leave it where it is, and then we're just going to bring the upper back to meet you. So go ahead and reach to the left and bring that towards you, and then when you start to feel it, you can relax into it. You just find that balanced position. Turn your muscles off. Do you feel balanced? Not pushed forward, not reaching back? Nope. And if I feel that way, I can always just adjust it. Yeah.

So that's the key. When you have more of a pear shape, often you don't need to bring the pelvis support forward. Just take advantage of it all the way back, bring that upper back in, and you're good.
