Why does Anthros not include a head support?

Updated over a week ago

Great question — and a fair one to ask about a chair at this price.

The short answer: Anthros is built for active, upright sitting. Headrests are designed for a different kind of sitting entirely.

Why headrests work against the Anthros design

Headrests support your head in a reclined position — think leaning back in a car or watching TV. To use one comfortably, your torso needs to angle backward, which tips your pelvis and collapses your lower spine.

Anthros works the opposite way. When your pelvis is supported in its natural upright position, your spine stacks into an S-curve and your head balances comfortably over your shoulders — no support needed. Adding a headrest to an upright chair actually encourages people to crane their neck forward, which is the opposite of what we want.

What about neck pain?

If you're experiencing neck tension in your Anthros, the answer usually isn't "add a headrest." It's one of these:

• Screen is too low or too far away

• Upper back pad needs a small readjustment

• Normal transition period — your body adapts over 1–2 weeks
